Antarctica Joy Spiral
Day 11 of #30DayMapChallenge
Elevation
A ‘Joy Plot’ of the University of Minnesota’s Polar Geospatial Center’s Reference Elevation Model of Antarctica
This is built from a 0.5° × 0.5° grid of sample points, with the latitude of the points offset by a combination of 1/720th of a degree (to create a spiral), and the elevation at that location (somewhat exaggerated).
There’s a bit of artistic noise thrown in too.
There’s heaps of ‘joy plot’ maps out there, not all of which map elevation. But there’s very few that aren’t horizontal.
Circular/spiral seemed like the only choice for this.
