Tongariro Hydro Power Scheme
Day 26 of #30DayMapChallenge
Hydrology
A network map of the rivers, canals, and tunnels which make up the hydroelectricity scheme in the central North Island.
Water flowing off the volcanoes (Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro) is intercepted and diverted through three power stations.
The water eventually flows into Lake Taupō, which in turn feeds the Waikato River – NZ’s longest.
Data from Genesis Energy, Wikipedia, and LINZ Topo Maps.
